Carlo Trinchero is currently working for his family’s wine operation in Napa Valley, which has been creating a great product for customers since 1948. When he isn’t working, he can be found enjoying the outdoors. One of his favorite activities is hiking, but there are some important things you should know before planning your next hike.
Before you plan your next hike, take note of the area you want to hike in. This will help you narrow down the type of equipment you’ll need to bring, the type of clothes to wear, including shoes, and the amount of water you’ll want to bring. If you’re in a dry area, you’ll need to take more water than you’d typically need. Conversely, if you’re in a wet area, you might be able to get water from local sources if you have a filter or iodine tablets.
Be prepared for all types of weather. If you’re hiking in the mountains, it’s important to be prepared for a variety of weather patterns that could plague the area. Although the summer is the best time to hike, it can also be the most sporadic in terms of weather; bring rain gear and warm clothing in case you get caught in a storm. If you’re hiking at altitude and it starts storming, get as low as you can to avoid lightning.
Take a basic first-aid kit. Anything can happen on the trail, and even having the simplest first-aid equipment can make all the difference for an injured person in your party. Always be prepared for the worst.
